History of the College:

The concept of establishment of Bengtol College started in the year 1977. Eventually full- fledged College committee was formed in 1981. At that time the college could not get momentum to run due to various reasons. But ultimately by the late nineties’ the college got full momentum to run in its full stature. In respect of establishment of the college the pioneers were Late Bhaben Chandra Owary, Late Sunil Bhaumick, Sri. Andreas Hajoary (then MLA) Shri. Isaac  Narzary, Shri. Gregory Borgoyary, Shri. Domenic Basumatary, Dr. R.K. Narzary, Sri. Eonas Narzary and many more untiring conscious citizens of the area. The college has reached up to the present stature due to the relentless works and sacrifices of those persons. Indeed the establishment of this college was a great challenge for the area. Undoubtedly, the pioneers had to face various kinds of hardships and challenges in different situations and times to bring up this college up to this stage.

The college has been established with a noble vision and objectives to cater quality higher education to the students of rural area. Being educationally and economically most backward area it was felt imperative to impart proper and quality education to students and people as well. The founding fathers have conceptualized this college with the noble belief that true and quality education will bring awareness and consciousness towards many problems that the area is facing. The area, particularly where the college is located, is inhabited by various ethnic communities professing different faith and belief and ironically it has also witnessed communal tension and ethnic crisis for several occasions. Therefore, it was observed that the college has great responsibilities towards the upliftment of the thinking process of the people so that they can live in unity and peace. The college was established with the noble aims and objectives to cater higher education with scientific and secular outlook to eradicate social evils, superstitious, poverty, unemployment etc. which is prevailing in the surrounding of the locality. The college is vowed to continue its existence with the motto “Knowledge is enlightening” and the vision “To impart Quality Education for Generations”. The fulfillment of its aims and objectives will depend on the basic foundation of improvement in various spheres of the college. To its credit, this college could bring substantive change in the sphere of social awakening and education in the area. The college has a mission to disseminate quality education to the students of deprived and weaker section, to build up the college as the centre of excellence, to proclaim message of unity in diversity through proper education and to impart quality higher education to the economically deprived and poor students. The college received first affiliation in 1999 and permanent affiliation in 2009 under Gauhati University. The college offer BA major in Philosophy, Political Science, History, Economics, Education, English and Bodo subjects and also BBA course.

3.     Recognised under section 2(F) & 12(B) of UGC Act, 1956, New Delhi.
