About the Library:

            Bengtol College was established in the year 1981. The College Library initially started in 1999 in a temporary building and later shifted to present permanent library building in the year 2004. In furtherance of the legacy of former President of India late Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, Bengtol College has developed a Knowledge Centre in its campus and has named it “Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Central Library”, a befitting tribute to Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, Scientist, science administrator, Missile Man of India, "People's President," and Bharat Ratna, the greatest human being of our time. Late Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam coined a term “Providing Urban Amenities in Rural Areas” (PURA), which is now essence of the India’s inclusive growth strategies and as a building block for inclusive knowledge societies in India. PURA supplements several social missions such as ‘Information for All’, ‘Education for All’, ‘Health for All’, ‘Every Village a Library / Knowledge Centre’, ‘No School without a Library’.

The Library is housed in a state of art building spread across 815.81 Sq. Meter (Ground floor + First Floor) with future plane to extend till third floor. The library has good collection of textbooks, reference books, journals, popular journals, current periodicals, back volumes (Journals), Newsletter, Question Bank, newspapers and magazines etc. BSNL Broadband connection is available to access internet resources in College Central library. Bengtol College provides access to N-LIST (National Library & Information Services Infrastructure for Scholarly Content) e-resources to the teachers and students of the College by joining membership with INFLIBNET (Information and Library Network) of the UGC (University Grants Commission). Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Central library is an open access system with spacious reading area providing an atmosphere conducive to readers. The library remains open from 9.30 A.M. to 5.30 P.M. on all working days. Collection strength of the Library as on as on 15th March 2017 is 11,174 mainly in Science, Social Science, Humanities and Management. Library Automation is ongoing with the installation of SOUL 2.0 Software 2.0. Barcode Label Printer is used for circulation. It is also initiated for digital section to avail digital resources both online and offline. In view of changing scenario of education system it is planned to improve the infrastructure of the Library every year.

 Mission & Vision:

1.  Library is a unique Knowledge Centre. The mission of the Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Central library is to provide the Bengtol College community with access to rich and relevant information resources to support their research, teaching and learning activities to foster the intellectual growth.

The library also aims to provide seamless access to academic curricular information to users of Bengtol College in a networked environment by Creating Digital Content in the field of Arts, Science and Management.


1. To create an environment for more productive teaching–learning process by providing a highly interactive electronic network giving access to e-resources through digital library.

·         6. Support and enhance teaching and learning processes by delivering and promoting the effective use of information resources and services

·         7. Create an informative environment that supports and encourages excellence in research in the field of Humanities, Science, and Management.

·         8. Promote the standing and good reputation of the college through excellence in library services, collaboration with other organizations and enhance staff contribution to the community.


Library Committee:

          The Library Committee plays an important role in the proper functioning of the library. The Committee is formed according to the procedure of the library rules and is working for the betterment and upgradation of the library in all aspects. Quarterly meetings are held on a number of issues regarding College Library and its upgradation. The main objective of library committee is to decide and adopt policies to govern the management and programme of the library, to prepare the annual budget, rules and regulations of the library.

             The Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Central library provides full open access to the readers. Each and every readers of the library can consult their required documents physically without any hindrances. Average number of walk-ins per day is 60, average number of books issued and returned per day is 30, and Ratio of library books to students enrolled is 14.48:1

 Reader's Services:

                 Reader's Services aimed at strengthening the Reading Room service that includes reference services. The Library remains open from 9.30 A. M. to 5.30 P. M. on all working days. During examination library remains open from 9.30 A.M. to 7.30 P.M. During Vacations from 10 A.M to 4 P.M

                   The Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Central Library is a member of N-List (National Library of Information Services infrastructure for scholarly content) funded by the Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD) under its National Mission of Education through ICT. Under this programme all user can provide access to more than 3000+ e-journals and more than 75000+ e-books.

                 All the housekeeping operation viz. Acquisition, Cataloguing, Circulation, and Serial Controls is automated using the SOUL 2.0 (Software for University Libraries) Network Version. LAN (Local Area Network) has been planned to establish with the Server installed in the Library connecting all Departments.

Library Orientation Programme:

                 Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Central Library conducts orientation programme to newly enrolled students of the college in order to acquaint them in accessing and use of the library services effectively and systematically. Library Orientation Programme is conducted every new session and whenever it is required.

 Library Rules and Regulations:

                  Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Central Library is a unique Knowledge Centre and a heart of the Bengtol College. It functions under confined rules and regulation of the Library for the smooth functioning and safeguarding the properties and for the convenience of all the users.

   1.      Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Central Library is open from 9.30 am to 5.30 pm.
   2.      Library Identity Card/College ID Card is compulsory for all the students. Books will be issued on production of Library Identity Card/College ID card and tickets.
   3.      Students are asked to Log in and log out in the Gate Register. Write their name, time, purpose of visit, card no. neatly and legibly.
   4.      No students will be allowed to enter in the library without a proper college uniform.
   5.      Silence should be maintained inside the library and Mobile Phone should be switched off/silent mood. Any kind of discussion or group study is not permitted.
   6.      All Personal belongings should be kept on the Property desk. Students are not allowed to take their Personal belongings inside the library except note book/paper and pen.
   7.      All publications and library property must be produced at the counter and shown to the staff before taking them out of the library.
   8.      Readers are asked to maintain the order of the books in the shelves. Shifting of the books to other section or misplace of the books is prohibited. Books, library properties and other documents should be  handled with utmost care. Students can read, write, prepare notes, and refer books in the library. Solely academic activities are only allowed.
    9.      Do not move around the library aimlessly.
   10.  Any students or faculties found guilty of losing a book, mutilating or disfiguring by writing, underlying sentences marking pages will have to replace such documents or he/she has to pay the actual price of the     book.
   11.  Dog-earing, marking or underlining the pages of publications or cutting pages, illustrations, advertisements or damaging the publications in any way is strictly prohibited.
   12.  Animals, foods and any kind of idols are not allowed inside the library.
   13.  Books will be issued for a period of 15 days only, but if he/she fails to return after 15 days, a fine of Re.1 will be charge per day. Students’ will have to return the book(s) and Library Clearance must be taken from the Librarian Office before the commencement of the final exam. If not, Admit Card will not be issued.
   14.  All the relevant information is put in the library notice board. (Check the notice board)
   15.  Maintain and follow the date and time accordingly.
   16.  For any help you can feel free to approach library staff for any query.
   17.  All the students and Staff members too are required to keep frequent transaction of the books time to time.
   18.  On account of financial ground and needy students, he/she can borrow books from the library for end session examination, with an application to the Librarian if necessary forwarded by the College Principal.
